What to know about flake epoxy floors
A flake floor is a colored base coat with vinyl chips broadcast into it and a clear topcoat over the top.
Every floor starts with the concrete it goes on. The slab is checked, cracks and old coatings are dealt with, and the system is chosen for how the space is used.
Color blends
Chips come in blends from quiet greys to bold mixes. Ask to see real samples, because a blend reads differently on a whole floor.
Hides the everyday
The pattern hides dust, small marks and the odd drip better than a plain color does.
Texture under foot
The chips give the surface a little texture. More or less can be built in where the floor gets wet.
The topcoat
A clear topcoat seals the chips in and is what you clean. Ask which topcoat goes over your floor and why.

Questions
How much of the floor is covered in chips?
Most flake floors are a full broadcast, where chips cover the base completely, which gives the most even look. A lighter scatter shows more of the base color. Ask to see both on samples before you choose.
Where does a flake floor make sense?
Garages, basements, shops and busy customer areas, anywhere the floor sees traffic and you want it to look clean between cleanings. On a very large commercial floor a solid color is often picked instead.
